In the field of art and culture, Sawantwadi has been known for it's handicraft for about 250 years and even to be there are hundreds of craftsmen carrying out this industry. It is famous for traditional art of painting, wooden craft, nottery craft, carved bison horns, gold and silver embroidery. Each subsequent ruler has added something to it's glory and beauty. The major contribution is in Chittar ali where Wooden Fruits & Toys, Wooden utility goods, Articles in paper pulp etc. as the items are sold all over India & abroad.

Tourism

Sawantwadi has its precious beauty by way of 100s of years of Heritage, Crafts, Hospitality & unique Nature. Lot of tourist are in love of Sawantwadi. Maharashtra tourism has declared it as Tourist centre. Also our municipal council has taken lot of steps to preserve & boost this economy to its maximum. Lot of related projects are completed & few of them are in final stage also. Tourist Information Centre, Eco Friendly Projects, Shilpagram, Playing Grounds - Long Tennis Ground, Water Fall, Dancing Fountain, Floating Fountain, Many Gardens, Rajwada, Heritage Preservation & so on. In near future this should be the major economy for Sawantwadi.

Market Place

Sawantwadi is a market place for around 20 nearby villages. Being Taluka place & Education Centre, many more people come to the city every day & naturally the home purchases are done from here only. The fish, vegetables & fruits coming from cities like Belgaum, Ratnagiri, Mumbai etc. are available here.

Industry

Sawantwadi has small industries like Fabrication, Engineering, Food Processing, Cashew Factories, Automobile garages & few other service industries. Few Small Scale Industries are situated in the area of Udyam Nagar, Mazgaon, which is attached to Sawantwadi. The industries here are Food Processing - Canning, Cashew Processing, Cement Pipe, Fabrication, Automobile Service Industries.
